Happy 100th National Park Service

With only eight national parks visited under my belt, I’ve got a long way to go in exploring all of them.

In the meantime, big congratulations to the National Park Service for managing the parks and affiliated sites of the National Park System. They are a gift to us all and places to treasure and respect.

In case you were wondering, how some of the numbers are:

The National Park System covers more than 84 million acres and is comprised of 410 sites with 28 different designations. These include 128 historical parks or sites, 81 national monuments, 59 national parks, 25 battlefields or military parks, 19 preserves, 18 recreation areas, 10 seashores, four parkways, four lakeshores, and two reserves.

A few images from my travels salute NPS’s day.
