It’s the great pumpkin…weigh-off 2012

The great pumpkin is here. Well, not Linus’s Great Pumpkin, but the largest fruit ever grown in history.

holiday contests, holiday traditions, winning entries, Halloween, Ron Wallace of Greene, RI, has grown a pumpkin that weighs a whopping 2,009 pounds – making it the largest pumpkin in the annals of pumpkin weigh-offs. Mr Wallace weighed his beauty at the Topsfield Fair in Topsfield, MA where the scales tipped one ton.

Starting from a single seed, the 2,000-pound mark seemed unattainable in one growing season. Many thought that the very structure of the pumpkin could not support the weight.

Wrong! Take a look at the prize winner.
