5 lines and 15 seconds of fame

I’m sad to report that a few weeks ago, the gavel fell on the NBC’s Law & Order (L&O). Tonight is the series finale of the mothership show. They wrapped the season, not knowing they were canceled – meaning no big final oration from DA Jack McCoy on the murder/moral conundrum.

I’m excited to report that after 20 years, I finally got my 15 seconds of L&O fame. Kind of.

WNYC’s The Brian Lehrer Show asked us to imagine what a series finale would look like. What’s Your 5-Line, Ripped-From-the-Headlines Treatment?

I posted my comment to the website in the morning. When I later listened to the show, I heard Brian reading my treatment on the air! “Janet, on our comment page writes…” Woohoo!

Listen to the segment or read the website comments here. There were some good pitches – these were their stories.

Dick Wolf, the franchise creator, was pushing for a 21st season which would have made Law & Order the longest running drama in TV history. With 20 seasons, it’s tied with Gunsmoke.

There’s chatter about a move to cable, or a two-hour movie. Nothing’s confirmed. Stay tuned.

Congratulations on your 15 seconds (& 5 lines) of L&O fame!

    My scenario:
Actors, writers, directors & crew members from a popular TV drama formerly filmed in NYC are out of work for over 10 months since all remaining network and cable television has reality programming. Flu season is approaching and they have no medical insurance. Feeling ill, they head, en masse, to St. Vincent’s Hospital. Oh, wait, that’s out of business too. . . . Someone has to pay? Who will it be and who done it?????
