In NYC, Cubs are the mane attraction

How can that be in Yankeetown and Metsville? Wait for it…

Yesterday New York City’s three newest attractions made their debut.

Mama simba Sukari, residing at the Wildlife Conservation Society’s Bronx Zoo, gave birth to triplets – two females and a male – back on 27 january. Proud papa is M’wasi. Weighing nearly five pounds each at birth, the cubs are now a hefty 25 pounds per.

Sukari and M’wasi are part of the Species Survival Plan® and were transferred to the Bronx from other zoos specifically for propagation. The triplets join Moxie, Sukari’s offspring born last year. Moxie was the first lion birth at the Bronx Zoo in 31 years, and now there are three more. Happiness all around!

Wait, it gets even better – you can help name the cubs. Join the Bronx Zoo and the New York Daily News in submitting your suggestions by 8 may. (Get inspired by watching the video.) They’ll short list the best of the bunch, and the voting begins on 16 may. Let the names begin…
