Unearthing a pot of gold
Images from the windowless, climate-controlled archive of the National Geographic Society will finally see the light of day. The holdings will be opened up to the fine-art market for the first time, in the hope of finding private and institutional collectors for the vintage black-and-white prints and later color images.
On Sept. 17, the Steven Kasher Gallery in New York City’s Chelsea district, will open the first exhibition of National Geographic pictures — 150 vintage prints from a dozen photographers, including many images never published in the magazine.
Looks promising.
