Sexy beasts: The Bonobos
Recently, ABC’s Nightline ran an interesting piece about the Bonobo. The Bonobo, an endangered species, is found only in the wilds of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Along with the Common Chimpanzee, the Bonobo is the closest living species to humans. Gorillas are the next species in that line.
I discovered the Bonobo a long time ago via an episode of Nature, and then I was given a beautiful book, Bonobo: The Forgotten Ape, to learn more about them. Their behavior is unique and fascinating – particularly their sexual practices. Researchers have studied Bonobo sexual behavior to gain insight into human sexuality.
Congolese researchers have a few new theories about the primates. Check out the Nightline video here.
